Chinese Burn
01:48
|
|||
If I were tottin’ up my thoughts
and writing them all down
I’d have a bible full of hatred
to be running round this town
but time is of the essence
I don’t mean to be cruel
you wear your heart on your sleeve
you get a Chinese burn
If I were jottin’ up the times
I should’ve walked right out
I’d have enough to write a novel
and a lot to sing about
but singin is so useless
and writing is for fools
you wear your heart on your sleeve
you get a Chinese burn
I’m hanging up on the deadline
I got a lot to say
but it’s time to keep my mouth shut
it’s useless anyway
cuz you’ll never be happy
and me I’ll never learn
you wear your heart on your sleeve
you get a Chinese burn
If I were to grovel
I’d never make amends
anything that starts in glory
is hatred in the end
but that’s what makes us real
cuz comfort brings us pain
you wear your heart on your sleeve
you get a Chinese burn

Oh, Kathleen
01:51
|
|||
Whenever I say I love her
she’s always asking me questions
I don’t have the answers
she don’t take suggestion
oh, Kathleen
Whenever I say I want her
she pushes me away
I gotta go home now
I can’t afford to stay
oh, Kathleen
Like a choice between butter and guns
long ago I stopped having my fun
I just want you to see what I have seen
Oh, Kathleen
Walking in the ruins
out here in the cold
I gaze into your eyes
dream of growing old
Lying in the bedroom
listening to the rain
put your hand in mine girl
let me take away the pain
Like a choice between butter and guns
long ago I stopped having my fun
I just want you to get what I mean
oh, Kathleen

A hip dead man
octogenarian
heading down to the river that day
you and your friend
the fat vegetarian
get lost
got nothing else left to say
People complain but everything stays the same
she never meant nothing to me anyway
start in the dirt you gonna get yourself hurt
she never meant nothing to me anyway
I hear the trumpet blowing for the end of days
the tree of life starts growing the music plays
that’s what keeps me singing
Smash up the headstones
tear down the statues
burn mansions and boot in doors
drag all the idols
from their beds at midnight
kill the cancer
and root out the cause
